Dinner plans

I am cooking a classic Italian dish for dinner tonight.

I can hear the sauce simmering on the stove top; the smell of rich tomatoes, garlic and minced beef are filling the house. It’s an inviting smell, brings a sense of warmth and love and happiness. I’ve never been to Italy, so I can only conjure images of villages, families at long, wooden dinner tables, and plentiful food. I can see sprigs of rosemary scattered down the middle of the table. Punnets of oregano, too. And bottles of red wine, pitchers of water. I can almost feel the balminess of a summer’s evening, dining al fresco with loved ones.

It will be served a little differently here tonight. It’s frosty cold, so we’re eating indoors. But I will be surrounded by the people I love most. I heard some disappointing news this afternoon, so my peeps are all I need. I can’t wait for dinner.

What about you? What are your dinner plans tonight?
