The heart

The frozen heart

Brittle, immobile

Broken and worn

Began to thaw.

Like the lake

In springtime warmth

Contracts and moves,

Cracks, like thunder.

Pieces break off

Beats begin anew

Blood flows,

Warmth soothes.

Some may guess

A new love brought

Heat to the cold,

Water to the ice.

But she knew,

She knew what

Had thawed her

From within.

Love, acceptance,

Forgiveness and faith

In herself, for herself

From now til her dying breath.
