Elton John is inside my head: Time on my hands should be time spent with you…
It’s a classic. Another one of those great songs released in the 80s. At the time, I was about 13, a happy early teen with solid friendships. We were all blind to the fragility of life, protected in the cocoon of youth and good homes. Idyllic. But those lyrics Rolling like thunder under the covers hinted at an exciting, unknown adult world that was an entire galaxy away. Looking back now, I thought I knew it all, yet somehow was itching to learn more and grow up. I was desperate to be mature, yet embodied immaturity. Hindsight’s a wonderful thing.
But that line! It’s evocative, figurative.
I’ve been helping Our Girl with her online school classes (only English and writing – everything else is beyond my intelligence 🙂 ) and yesterday we looked at metaphors, similes, and personification. I’m actually not 100% confident in naming each but am pretty sure Elton John’s is a simile. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, and then I shall send you Our Girl’s next work sheet as well 🙂 .
A nonsensical rambling post today, friends, but I hope you have a good day!
P.S. I do not like this new WP editor thingo. Aaarrgh!!
