The Dream

In the labyrinth she’s lost. Confused, confronting corners and blockages. Where’s the way out? Her breath comes in short gasps as she glances about her.

It’s all green, high. Too tall for her to see over. Above her, there’s blue sky.

‘Follow me.’

The voice comes from nowhere, as if in the clouds. Her heart races. Could this be her chance to leave or will it lead her further into disarray.

‘Who’s there?’ she calls. Her hands are outstretched as if reaching for a helping hand.

‘Come. It’s this way. Down the line.’

Her whole body is thrumming, with fear or excitement, she can’t tell. Her feet take tentative steps following the sound of the voice.

And then, in the distance she sees a gap in the hedge. It’s her way out, it must be. She runs towards it, panting.

She steps into the glimmering light…

…And wakes in darkness.

Her lover beside her, sprawled in contented sleep. Gasping for air, it’s clear to her now: it was a just a dream.

But the feeling of being trapped, lost, stays with her and keeps her awake while she watches the clock tick over.

  1. The lover sprawled,
    part of her
    being lost in life.
    The light
    the darkness again,
    switch on,
    switch off
    get out
    while you can
    once again
    feel your body
    thrumming 🙂
Inspirational writing Linda, thanks for joining in ❤

    1. You’re not alone Fandango. I had no idea what I was doing with this post 🤣🤣 Busy morning…work day, getting kids prepped and out the door as they’re (finally) back at school, and Hubster and I carried old couch from back court yard to the kerb for hard rubbish pickup! Somewhere in the middle of all that, I fumbled around with this 😳😳
